Bulldog Seniors

Senior year is an exciting time, but there is a lot of information you may need. Stay up to date with all graduation requirements, and check with your counselors to make sure you are on the right track! Important dates, information, links, and announcements can be found below.

COVID News and Updates

College Decision Day

  • May 1st has traditionally been the national deadline to reply to the FINAL college that you plan on attending and also for the enrollment deposit; however, because of COVID-19, some colleges have changed deadlines. For example, some colleges have extended their deadline to June 1st (Examples: UNL and UNK)
  • It is the responsibility of the senior to contact the colleges to know these deadlines.
  • Another helpful resource is the NACAC College Admission Status Update 2.0 , which also includes information on changed deposit deadlines, AP Courses for 2020 Grads, anticipated registration for Freshmen-Fall 2020, and much more.
  • Also, EducationQuest has resources for updates from Nebraska colleges.

 Senior Survey/Final Transcript

  • Seniors MUST complete the Senior Survey from district titled OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS with the subject line: “Class of 2020 Senior Survey.” This email was sent earlier this week to their school email accounts in Office 365. If seniors did not complete this yet, research will be sending the survey out again in a future email.
  • Once seniors complete this survey, Burke will send your final official transcript to the college you requested once the transcripts have been finalized in MID-JUNESometimes seniors will receive emails from their college for this request BEFORE official transcripts have been finalized; however this happens every year and we will get them to the college you select in the Senior Survey.
  • If a senior applies to a new college from now until the end of the year or changes their final college choice AFTER they completed the senior survey, send an email directly to me at Donald.ferree@ops.org with this name and location of your new school.

 Enrollment Deposit

  • Because of financial hardships (free/reduced lunch, homelessness, other family circumstances, etc.), some colleges may waive the enrollment deposit fee.  Here are the steps to follow if this applies to your situation:
  • Step 1: Contact the college directly and discuss your specific circumstances. (If you don’t already in contact with a person at that college, I would recommend entering “enrollment deposit” in the search box on the college's official website)
  • Step 2:  If the college requires more information from Step 1 and you are on free or reduced lunch, SEE MEAL VERIFICATION REQUEST LETTER TO THE RIGHT. Once you’ve complete the steps stated in the attachment and received a letter back from pamela.swanson@ops.org, email this letter to your contact at the college.
  • Step 3: If the college still requires more information after you’ve completed steps 1 and 2, email me at donald.ferree@ops.org and attach your meal verification letter you received from Pamela Swanson.
FAFSA Updates
  • If your family’s financial situation has changed dramatically since you or your parents filed taxes, complete the FAFSA questions as instructed on the application, submit your FAFSA form, then contact the school you plan to attend and discuss your current situation with the financial aid office.

NCAA and NAIA Changes

  • The NCAA and NAIA announced several changes to initial eligibility requirements for incoming freshman student-athletes, which includes information on GPA’s, grades, waiving standardized test scores, and more. For more information, see NCAA Eligibility Center COVID-19 Response FAQs or NAIA Eligibility Center FAQs .
  • Reminder that information changes on a regular basis so it is the STUDENT-ATHLETE’S responsibility to stay informed by contacting their respective college coaches, future college, or researching online.
