My name is Kelsey Sheridan and I am the volunteer coordinator for the iCan Bike Camp. We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with this event the week of July 22-27th, 2019 and want to invite student volunteers from across the Omaha metropolitan area to make this year the best yet!
The iCan Bike Camp is a week long event that provides individuals with disabilities the chance to learn to ride a bike in 5 days. This is significant because it will provide these individuals with a skill that allows them to exercise, socialize and even a means to transport themselves to a job opportunity in the future. Providing this skill can be instrumental in their ability to be independent in the future.
We are searching for volunteers over the age of 15 to help spot our riders during the week. We need individuals who are willing to jog alongside our riders for 90 minutes each of the five days to assist them in learning to ride a bike. Our organization provides two coaches who will teach the skill of riding the bike and will couch our volunteers on how to support their riders. I have attached a news story from one of our previous camps and additional information/images and videos can be found on our Facebook page Omaha iCanBike Camp.
This is a great opportunity for students to stay in shape and give back to the community. We would really appreciate you sending this opportunity to your students as this would be a wonderful volunteer or resume building opportunity while giving back to the community. Your district's help would make a significant difference in our ability to support these riders!
